Dr. George is Department Chair, R&H Mickle Endowed Chair, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). He is also the Founder and Director of the NSF Center for Space, High-performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC), a national research center and consortium founded in 2017, operating since 2018, and headquartered at Pitt. SHREC features more than 40 academic, industry, and government partners and is considered by many as the top research center in its field. SHREC was preceded by CHREC, the NSF Center for High-performance Reconfigurable Computing, which operated from 2006-2017 and was rated by NSF as one of its most successful national centers. Dr. George's research interests focus upon high-performance architectures, apps, networks, services, systems, and missions for reconfigurable, parallel, distributed, and dependable computing, from satellites to supercomputers.
